Short of time?

Time is something we are always short of and therefore we have to be in a rush all the time.

In this 24/7 race against time, sometimes we forget the puepose of the race itself.
Once I heard a joke which goes like :
A man sees his friend running on the road and dragging his bicycle with him as well. The man asks, " Hey, why don't you ride the bicycle!" He gets the answer, " I im in a hurry. I don't have time to sit on the bicycle."

Funny, but in our day to day and dawn to dusk racing, what happens is that the  troubled and unfocussed mind also works at the lowest efficiency.

In the race to live, we forget to live at all and also how to live.
As a result, all of us, who actually are capable of much bigger and much better accomplishments are doomed to a mediocre life, and at the twilight zone, we wonder where did the life go away, how did the 70 years pass away and what the hell the hurry was for? The hurry doesnt seem to make any difference at the end.

At the end we realize that time was the actual wealth, the actual capital that can only be spent, the property that can not be bought at any price. The  total wealth of the universe  an create matter and energy but can not create even a minute of time.

So, what this precious wealth , the Time actually is?

We do not know about it. We are not sure about it. We can't see/ smell/ touch/taste it. None of the finest scientific instruments including those who can see the atom to those who can see billions of kilometers far away fail to sense it.Still, Surprisingly, we, every single one of us, claim to keep its account always. What is it?
It it Time!
We claim to measure Time, though we can't detect the existence of even a single second of it.

Every calendar, clock, wristwatch, cellphone, computer, TV, dvd upto the microwave seem to be keeping track of Time.

Time is the most fundamental law of the existence of the universe as well as the Life.
What we percieve and name as Time is nothing but the most obvious yet unnoticed fact of the cyclic nature inbuilt in each atom, each phenomenon of the universe.
Time is the Solemn Statement of God himself, stating the non existence of any begining or any end. Only cycles!
We first observed this law as well as  the existence of Time itself with the sunrises and sunsets and invented Day, Then hours and minutes. We watched seasons and invented Year. We watched Moon phases and counted months. Our calendars count the days and watches count the minutes.
Our watches do not measure the time, not at all. They only keep count of the cyclic mechanism, whether springloaded, pendulum, sunlight, sandfall, peizo or atomic. The clocks then compare their cycles with a cycle of nature, ie day and year and fragment it into seconds and beyond.

Hacking Time:

Still, the Time remains unreplenishable, exhausting every second, mercilessly.
Can nothing be done to slow the time even minutely! Can a few minutes not be added at all. Will we never come out of this shortness of Time?
Answer is 'Yes'.

The secret lies in our minds. Time has one more diamension, present in our minds.
Time exists in our minds as well. Which means that Time moves as slow or as fast as we percieve it to.
For example, imagine a 100 m sprint. A Casual watcher who is bored, daydreaming or talking would almost fail to notice anything except the start or finish. An avid watcher would watch the race as it happens but at a very fast speed, too fast to watch all contestents. But the sprinter, for him the time slows down before the race starts, remains slow and becomes slower as his chest touches the ribbon. The experince of these persons of the same 10 seconds quite differ. For the casual watcher, these 10 seconds did not exist at all, for the avid watcher these were like 10 seconds and for the sprinter the time almost took half a minute as per his own perception. In sports many a time a batsman, bowler, golf player or football player finds himself watching the ball frame by frame, almost as if in a slow motion.
This is the power of concentration. The deeper the concentration, the slower is the time. Vice versa, the more fragmented the focus, the lesser aware the mind, the faster is the time. Amphetamines and other stimulats raise the wakefulness to this end.
So, by reducing the extra worries and random thoughts awareness can increase.

Strangeness:

Another example: visiting an unknown place seems to take more time than a known place at the same distance. In fact, always, going to an unknown place seem to take a lot more time than coming back. Reason is awareness, in this case known as strangeness.

A strange unknown environment raises concentration or awareness and then the time slows down.
Another well known example, while running and falling the time slows down.
Also a strong slap and its stimulus to the mind, slows down time considerably. This technique is used heavily in Zen temples, where a master sometimes slaps or hits a pupil who seems to be at the threshold of enlightent, who is missing the final piece of the jigsaw, who is missing just the bit. In such a case, a slap or a hit might give him the strangeness, that moment of time of heightened awareness when everything comes into place and the light is switched on in the darl, as if a myopic suddenly got the correct glass suddenly.

This is the value of strangeness.
In fact enlightemnt is nothing but a moment of strangeness after one or more lifetimes of query, search and meditation.

The strangeness is also the reason, that travelling helps so much in this query. When going through unknown areas and meeting strange people,  one is in a deeper awareness, can question, observe and think over the same things, that he would miss entirely at his own home.
Another exaple of this is that while we can notice all the cobwebs and spiders in the drawing room of a host we are visiting, we do do not notice much larger ones in our own drawing room.
So, the secret of the time is the awareness. By keeping our minds lighter loaded and externalising our minds, we can improve our awareness and then we can be far more efficient, productive and successful. Hours, Days, months and Life will all become longer in your own frame of reference resulting in success and thereby happiness
Some suggestions to this purpose are organizing things and routine, cutting down TV time, being online once in a day or only as per need rather than the present 'always on' system,  Reducing the 'multitasking' as far as possible and greatest of all, by meditating.
Good luck to you in developing awareness and harnessing the most previous resource of time!

Bad things happening with Good people!

Many a times we feel that it is mostly the good and the righteous who suffer, while the evil live and enjoy their evil deeds.

One of my favorite zen anecdotes-
The horse of a farmer runs away to the forest. All the neighbours consoled the farmer and commented " How unlucky! Losing his only horse.". The farmer only replied "maybe".
In a few days the horse returned alongwith another mare with it. Now the neighbours said, "Getting a mare for free. How lucky! The farmer again replies "maybe".
One day the farmer's son falls from the mare and breaks his leg. The villagers expressed their sympathy and say, "How unlucky. Such a young boy breaking his leg." Again  the farmer replied only "maybe". After few days a war started between this country and its neighbouring country. All the young or able males were getting conscripted in the army. The king's staff do not conscript the farmer's son due to the broken leg. Now, thd villager's were envious and said, "Lucky chap. Breaking his leg at the right time and getting away."

Now, the farmer listens and only says , "Maybe."

Like this story, life is not a single event, single match or a single hand of a game. Life is like an almost infinite stream of events. Every event, however small, affects every event, however large, downstream in this current of time. In this incalculably complex mechanism, life simply becomes completely unpredictably. Who knows who all will meet him for what and what plans will begin, when a natural calamity will come, when a war or recession in a far off country will rain money on some and close many other shops.
Some microspic events also initiate transformation of thw whole world. There are many such example throughout history.
For instance, discovery of steam engine started Industrial revolution and empire building from Britain.
A painter who when refused admission in Vienna acdemy developed a career in politics and went on to start World war 2, Hitler.
An arrow stroke to the eye of Hemu, the Indian ruler changed the loosing battle of Moghuls in India and completely changed the present and future for thousand of years.
Alongwith thousands of such visible cause and effect relationships, there are also present trillions of undercurrents of many cause many effect relationship beginning and culmimation every second.
There are no individual cause and effects. There are no individual fortunes.
Therefore, we can never know that what good waits us after this bad turn. Or what bad may come after this victory. It is very much possible that this failure or harm is going to get me a bigger gain in future. Maybe this lost battle has changed the scenario to get me a bigger war.

No event can be judged as good or bad in isolation. In this chaotic mechanics any event can lead to any outcome. Therefore, let us place total trust in the God that we believe in and take the things as they come.
By being fluid not rigid, being open and not closed, being dynmic and not static I can utilize even the problems I face into opportunities for myelf. By changing the approach and planning dynamically as per the situation one can make the best of almost any situation to his benefit and this is the secret to success.  Utilizing even the problems.

Further,I am good or not only God knows,  because all 6 billion people are good in thier own eyes.
What happens to me, is the result of what I have at some time done to others. This is the whole theory of Karma i.e. Sowing and reaping and what goes around, comes around.
So, if I want very good things to happen with me, worrying and criticising will not help at all. Praying to God will help, but what will help many more times is being good to others and doing good things. What is best, is doing good things spontaneously, as a duty without any expectation or calculation of gains. This is is the teaching of Upanishads, Karmayoga, Geeta and also of Tao. This is the hidden algoritham behind the above mega-complex chaotic multi cause-multi effect chain.
To summarise, let us accept that
We all are good, let us try to act good spontaneously and accept the events as Gods will in our best interest, as a parent to a child.
Accept things as they come, evolve upon them and have faith in God.

We all are Good and things that happen to us are also Good and will be better if we ourselves become better.
This is secret of eternal happiness.

Love is God!

Love is not only the happiness and joy of life but Love is the path to God also.
The road to God goes through the steps of Query, doubt, knowledge, assimilation and application of this knowledge with meditation for instance, Achieving Awareness of the true nature of the life, the world and God and then comes the enlightenment leading to God.

But, On this path, our brain and thinking can only take us upto the level of knowledge only and no further! The thinking brain can look  but it will not see or percieve.

After that level only the heart can be the guide, to the hidden path of Love.

God and his spirit is everywhere in this world, all around us and in fact inside us also. Every Human, animal or particle us hiding the divine glow inside itself and this cloak of invisibility of is called 'Maya' or Ignorance.
Ishvasyopnishad says that all that is visible and all that is invisible is Supreme God himself. Also it says that "The enlightened is the one who sees all in God and God in all."

In an anecdote, Once when Guru Nanak Dev ji was sleeping in Holy Mecca with his feet towards the Kaaba, he was reprimanded by somebody for keeping his feet towards the "Home of God". He expressed his tiredness and requested the person to kindly move his feet towards the direction where God did not reside. When the angry person started moving his feet he was amazed to see that whatever direction he moved he would see Kaabasharif in front of him. God was residing everywhere, and he was blessed to see it.

Our God, whom we try to love with all our hearts is with us and inside us all the time, yet we, the innocent children in our ignorance can not see him. Our reliance on our physical eyed fail us. We search him in temples and churches. We go to far away places for pilgrimage. We go to Masters, Gurus and Babas. Finally we find him, if we are successful, in our hearts. We find him in ourselves, in our parents and family, in our neighbours, in all humans, in all living beings and in all the non living as well and then is our journey to our dear eternal home completed.
When we see God in all humans, it is not just a statement but acceptance of all, any caste, creed, color, age, gender or wealth as our dear ones. When the enlightened sees into the eyes of any person he sees the spirit of God hiding in those ignorant eyes. He treats all the Living with same compassion as with his beloved.

The sufis and fakirs have realized this for a very long time and in a story, once  a fakir was sharing a bread with a dog. When somebody asked him why he behaving so absurdly, he was answered by the fakir that, " The  God and The God are sharing The God, why are you asking O God."
This is the true path to God and whatever form we worship our God in and whatever temple or church we go to, let us first love ourselves, our parents and family also. Let us embrace our neighbors and all others with the same compassion. Has anybody ever seen any fault or ugliness in his beloved, his mother or his child. Love sees only the good and that is why Love is the beauty of life. Yes, it is not easy and yes, it will not happen any time soon. But, it is the true path, it will happen gradually and surely and life will be much more beautiful on this path.
The person who needs the most compassion  from you first is nobody else but yourself. Forgive yourself for past errors and all, accept and appreciate yourself the way God has made you and look at yourself with the same compassion. Then let us do the same with the family, the neighbours, the acquaintances and the strangers, whoever they be. What is the surprise is that the Love spread by you is also returned to you by others and the only way of getting Loved has always been by Giving the  love.
Since we already love our family, the first person of non-family encountered to us is our neighbour and maybe that why God askes us to "Love our neighbours" as that is the first step to loving all living beings.

This is the way to have a happy life and build up a Beautiful and Happy world brick by brick and also the path to our beloved God.
The path of Love.

The Overheated Chip !

In many ways the human mind and brain can be compared to the computer os and the hardware.
When a child is born, he is born with minimal capabilities and information. He knows just to breath and to partake of his food, i.e. milk as per gods design. He can not see. He can not control the limbs, other organs or the natural needs. He can hear and the only response he has is the  crying. Crying of a child can be for 13 different reasons from hunger, pain, cold, hot in short anything abnormal.
Then in a few weeks, the device drivers of the optical, audio and the motor units start getting installed. Then starts a massive data uptake, compilation, linking and summary of the information collected continuously of all sense organs.
Then more complex programs of speech, identification etc are loaded and in a few months a fully loaded supercomp is running at full speed.
At the twilight, the reverse happens. Memory blocks start getting corrupted. Drivers fail. Motor mechanisms also become slow and unsteady and so on.

What happens in between?
In the period of youth and afterwards when the hardware is finally set up, it can not develop or repair any more but starts getting corrupted block afte block.
Also, if one could see inside the task manager of an adult human, he would find at least 20 programs running on the front end and a hundred in the background. Remember, how Windows start shaking and hanging at just 50 programs. These programs include the boss, the colleagues, the life partner, kids, school, promotion, house, emi, tax, investment, neighbors, friends, relatives, nation, politics, cricket, vacation, bills, past, present, future and so on. Many of these background programs take over in idle time i.e. sleep in shape of dreams. That is why dreams show us what is running undreneath the conscious mind and are called "Golden road to the subconscious." or something like that.
So we are looking here at a chip multitasking and severely overloaded and overclocked. The result is obvious, burning out if the chip at a fast rate and reduced life, besides reduced efficiency coz any productive work like your ppt would take forever.
So what to do to save ourselves from burning out early as well as fatal health repercursions and also to improve our efficiency and thereby our success.
Easy, the same as tweak our comp.
First, unwanted programs running in the background need to be terminated. Most important of them are memories of past and 10-20 year plans of future. The paat is already dead and the future will be allright if you do well in the present. Second is the worrying part. Worrying a lot doesnt help in solution. After that, things have to be let go, upon the trust in God, destiny as well as the confidence in oneself. We will tackle it when it happens. You can not plan every move and response in life. Let go the illusion of being in control and take it easy a bit. Worrying 24 hours will not help more than worrying 8 hours or so. What will help is, relaxing a bit and tackle the issue again after a while. A relaxed and calm mind can tackle almost all situations.
To these ends most helpful is meditation. It helps in calming the mind, relaxing, clearing, improving focus, summarizing and finding hidden solution in peripheral vision. With a bit of physical exercise or breathing exercise results can be wonderful.
Getting good 8 hours comfortable  sleep is most essential as a necessity. The REM sleep of 2 hours is the basic requirement for repair and maintenance of body and mind. The Body and mind are our most vital equipment, which has no upgradation, replacement and sometimes no repair as well. Therefore let us not burn them out and give sufficient cooling. Sleep also helps in defragging the mind and is almost a meditation. That is why the most wonderful ideas are born in early sleep or just at the time of awakening.

So friends lets handle the hardware and software with a bit of love and care and you will love the long and wonderful life you will have and yes without any error mesaages.

Who Am I?

Who am I?

Who am I?
Who is the one asking this question?

Who is having this awareness of this world?
Who is the one having awareness of this awareness?

What is this awareness? Where is this awareness? Who has this awareness? Does this awareness differentiate the Living?
If so, does every living cell has so? Is every cell of my body aware? Is my individual awareness or consciousness a collective consciousness? If it is collective then the size of organism should be related to its intelligence too?
Or if individual cells lack this awareness then is this body only a Bio-Electro-mechanical vehicle for this Awareness? If so, then can this awareness be introduced in a man-made design such as a robot? Can a Computer start thinking and say, “Hey, I think....” ?

Does this consciousness reside in the body? Is it limited by the body limits? Is it stationary?
When does this consciousness develop in an embryo? At what stage or size?

Lots of question. Most of these questions were born soon after the human life was born and have not been answered so far or have they been answered?

Scientifically, we have so far neither isolated the awareness of a living being, nor transferred it nor created it, but at least we have ascertained our lack of answers to the above question and that can be a start. All our acumen and resources have already been directed to the identification of that tinniest basic particle, the elementary building block of the universe. On the other end we humans are also slowly increasing our knowledge about how at the sub-atomic scale solid matter starts behaving as an Electromagnetic Wave (i.e. light) and Why lights gets deflected by gravitation as a matter should. At what point matter becomes light and when does light start forming particles, particles form atoms, atoms, molecules form matter and then matter forms the tangible universe. We have new theories and newer theories and so far they have raised doubts and more doubts. However, this is the methodology of scientific enquiry, i.e. Questions to answers, answers to doubts, more questions and answers, followed by a theory, experiments to confirm finally leading to knowledge. May our scientific knowledge soon cross this barrier of knowledge and ignorance.

For the time being, let us study the ancient Indian concept of 'Prana' as described by Swami Vivekananda which discloses this relationship between matter, light and awareness.

Prana (From RajaYoga by Swami Vivekananda)

Pranayama is not, as many think, something about breath; breath indeed has very little to do with it, if anything. Breathing is only one of the many exercises through which we get to the real Pranayama. Pranayama means the control of Prana. According to the philosophers of India, the whole universe
is composed of two materials, one of which they call Akasha. It is the omnipresent, all - penetrating existence. Everything that has form, everything that is the result of combination, is evolved out of this Akasha. It is the Akasha that becomes the air, that becomes the liquids, that becomes the solids; it is the Akasha that becomes the sun, the earth, the moon, the stars, the comets; it is the Akasha that becomes the human body, the animal body, the plants, every form that we see, everything that can be sensed, everything that exists. It cannot be perceived; it is so subtle that it is beyond all ordinary perception; it can only be seen when it has become gross, has taken form. At the beginning of creation there is only this Akasha. At the end of the cycle the solids, the liquids, and the gases all melt into the Akasha again, and the next creation similarly proceeds out of this Akasha.

By what power is this Akasha manufactured into this universe? By the power of Prana. Just as Akasha is the infinite, omnipresent material of this universe, so is this Prana the infinite, omnipresent manifesting power of this universe. At the beginning and at the end of a cycle everything becomes
Akasha, and all the forces that are in the universe resolve back into the Prana; in the next cycle, out of this Prana is evolved everything that we call energy, everything that we call force. It is the Prana that is manifesting as motion; it is the Prana that is manifesting as gravitation, as magnetism. It is the Prana that is manifesting as the actions of the body, as the nerve currents, as thought force. From thought down to the lowest force, everything is but the manifestation of Prana.
The sum total of all forces in the universe, mental or physical, when resolved back to their original state, is called Prana. "When there was neither aught nor naught, when darkness was covering darkness, what existed them? That Akasha existed without motion."
The physical motion of the Prana was stopped, but it existed all the same.At the end of a cycle the energies now displayed in the universe quiet down and become potential. At the beginning of the next cycle they start up, strike upon the Akasha, and out of the Akasha evolve these various forms, and as
the Akasha changes, this Prana changes also into all these manifestations of energy. The knowledge and control of this Prana is really what is meant by Pranayama.

The Heart of the Religion and the Religion of the Heart!

One of my favorite Zen anecdotes,
In a Japanese monastery, a naughty cat used to disturb the daily meditation practice of the disciples. So, the master ordered the cat to be tied up during meditation. This goes on for a while. Later on, the master passes away, disciples pass out and finally the cat passes away too. Unfortunately tying of the cat has now become a ritual, a custom. Cats are purchased, if needed, but no meditation session allowed without the tying up of the cat. One master is so convinced of the benefits of this practice that he even writes a book on this subject.

It is an amusing story, but unfortunately it is true. Our religions have changed a lot too throughout ages. Lot of things got added, another lot deleted or obscured. Sometimes the practices start going in the opposite directions too. While the common source of all human races is an interesting subject and another one is the mutual interchange between all major relegions through time and trust me there is a lot of material available in this regard with lots of surprises.

For  example, the concepts of Vedanta goes on evolving with time and after thousands of years, Buddhism is born in India with common elements of Mediatation or Dhyan. The Buddhism travel north with several monks, Bodhidharma most famous of them. Buddhism is assimilated by China, but in synthesis with Taoism evolving as Chan and these practices finally become Zen in Japan, which again branches into many schools.
There are many such instances with every relegion. Our ancestors in ancient times were far more connected, open and exploring than we think.
The fact is that while every relegion has branched into many sects with overlapping but yet unique beliefs and practices, through generations our practices have also diverted far greatly from our ancestors. Even in a family there are minor and subtle differences in individual beliefs and practices. It seems that there are hardly even two households having exactly same set of beliefs and practices.

So, who is correct finally? Which religion and sect is accurate?

They all are. While a lot of ornamentation of rituals and practices have evolved in every religion through the millenia, deep down every religion teaches us a few most important things like,
Belief, faith, love and surrender to one Almighty God,
Being good to others,
and Compassion to all. This is the nectar, the soul, the message of every religion.
Surrender to God and Love to fellow human beings is the Heart of every religion and God, whatever name or form we percieve him by, would like us to focus on these only.
Ishvasyopnishad recognises the learned or the enlightened as only those who see everyone in God and God in everyone.
Whatever be the frequency of worshipping or size of sacrifice, God would pefer if we treated all his children lovingly instead of harassing or quarreling with.

So, let us keep following the religion of our forefathers and follow their practices, but with a total faith and surrender to God and a heart full of compassion for all our fellow human beings as the children of the same  father.
This Love will only come from the inside, the soul.

So dear friends, Surrender and Love resides in the Heart of every religion and it is the Religion of the Heart.

God bless all of us!

The Ultimate Q&A- The wisdom of ancient India!

“Mahabharat” is the largest Epic Story as well as a Mythology and Historical Chronicle of Indian Subcontinent. Due to its enormous and all inclusive nature, about Mahabharat it has also been claimed that, “Yanna Bharate, tanna Bharate”( What is not in Mahabharat that is not in India). Besides its priceless historical content, Mahabharat also contains the Nectar-like extract of ever evolving Indian spiritual quest at its culmination. The best example of this spiritual treasure of Mahabharat is “Geeta” which is the greatest Indian spitiual treatise, which contains all the wisdom of Vedas and Upnishads in a perfect form. Besides Geeta, there are many other portion with unparalleled wisdom and insight, of which the best example is the dialogue of the 'Yaksha' and Yudhishtir. Each of these questions of Yaksha in the form of a crane and their answers by Yudhishtir reveal the secret and wisdom of the mystery of life and absorbing this knowledge we can achieve perfection of this life and beyond.

What is the greatest wonder in the world?
-- The greatest wonder is that although people see living beings die everyday they still try to live forever.

Let us all benefit by absorbing this greatest wisdom of life.

The more we change the more we remain the same!

Once an uncle of mine during a chit-chat was describing his dislike of extra fashion conscious teenagers and he told me how his father was correct when he used to say that “these teenagers would go around wearing even rags if it came into fashion or some movie star wore them.”

This story was very much revealing in one aspect that my uncle now a die hard conservative was also a liberal in his days. Yes, he just like his previous generation and so on were all rebels in their own days who went on to become 'no nonsense' and 'nothing doing' super serious seniors. The other part of the revelation is more shocking, we of the younger generation are on our way to join this club soon. The changes have begun even if unnoticed. I also think sometimes of ourselves as experimenting but responsible youth while the next generation as casual, non oriented youngsters (brats, in some cases too). The age old statements like “What will become of this world.”, “In our days.....”, “Things have gone to dogs.” etc etc. I who once sported a crew cut, the first in my town maybe is annoyed with the 'Tere naam'-cut and of course the later ones. Same about liking parties, late evenings, movies etc and hating bans and prohibitions by youngsters who on becoming seniors impose similar bans 'in the best interest of subject.' Amusing, isn't it!

The fact is very simple. Our behavior has very less of the individual or uniqueness than we think and has in fact more of the age group, the then peer group etc. In other words our approach, the attitude and behavior is much more affected by psychosomatic factors than we can imagine.

In other words, we will be much more like our fathers than we can imagine, and they were much more like us than they are ready to accept. So, on the basis of the change we undergo in almost an identical manner, we should accept the younger as well the older generation and resolve the differences.

Our seniors are more or less our future versions and the youngsters or 'brats' are our past versions.
Keeping this in mind we can understand the approach and mindset of others and can resolve the issue much more amicably. We can also understand, accept, forgive and forget the petty issues much more easily and enjoy all our lives much beautifully. This is very important as the family and family matters are of highest priority in anyones life and a happy family life can balance even the upheavals of the world as well as an unhappy and turbulent family life can negate all victories of the outside world.

Not only that. With most of our friends and acquaintances we have our disagreements and dislikes of varying degrees at many times which lead to discord and sometime damage the relationships beyond salvage. These unresolved issues go on to inflate and this road leads to Break-ups, Divorces and the final goodbyes. Most of these relations could have become the joy of our life, if we had handled them with more understanding of the other's POV (point of view) just by thinking of what we would have felt, thought or done in their place. We will finally find the actions and thoughts similar to us. In relationships no wrongs or rights and no goods or bads. Accept all others as what we all really are, just humans. Humans, who are good within, who like to do good, but have our common little weaknesses, ego and insecurities, and 'being always right' is one of them.

So, dear friends, accept all the others in our family and circles as more or less ourselves too, just in a different state, stage or circumstances. We all are much more identical than we think. We change and then we become the same.

Enjoy the circle of life!

Loving God by Loving Others!

A Pilgrimage is worth many times more than wearing  the Pious clothes,
Worship from the heart is worth many times more than the Pilgrimage,
True Faith is worth many times more than the Worship,
Total Surrender to God is worth many time more than the Faith,
Compassion to others is worth hundred hundred times more than the Surrender.
One can not actually love God without Loving other humans!

The Seeker is the Sought after!

"On my quest to understand God, what I discovered was the Human,
On my quest to understand the Human, what I discovered was God!"

The Undying Hunger !

He was hungry. He was puzzled too. He had been hungry as far as he could remember. Every morning he woke up with the hunger. He spent the whole day in consuming. When he was not consuming, either he was working so that he could have more or thinking how to work to have more.
Now he had spent bigger part of his life. He had consumed more than he even himself hoped to. Today he was consuming 10 times more than he was 10 years back.
Yet, whenever he was alone, when he was away from those consuming less, he was hit by the hunger pangs.
The hunger would never leave him.
Today, after a long time, maybe for the first time, he found himself brooding. He was thinking.
He knew others who were consuming more, but if they were consuming even more every day, that meant their hunger was getting stronger every day instead of dying.
He could not think of anyone, whether consuming less or more,  who was not living for consuming rather than consuming for living.
Oh! Would this Hunger never never die! Would he finally die Hungry!

He spent next month or so in such a brooding mindset.
Finally, one day he decided not to go and spend the whole day for consuming. He would consume only as little, as would keep him alive and working. Then he would see what happens. What was the loss in trying a different approach.
After the sundown, he summarised that it was a day better spent. He was feeling less hungry than he usually did. He was feeling lighter. He slept easily too. He continued it for the next fortnight or so and found that his life had changed completely, for good.
He smiled  a lot more and was afraid a lot less, as there was a lot lesser to lose. He thought more and did lesser but with better results. He could do a lot more with his newly found spare time. He could walk down the glade, sit under the tree watching butterflies and the clouds.
He was happier.
Unknown to himself, he had found his key to the door of the road to paradise.

This road was called by the wise as 'Tao' and the key was known as 'Contentment.'

As per the enlightened, it is the cycle of spiritual evolution. First desires, then actions to fulfill these desires, then more desires, then more actions, and so on till the person realizes the undying nature of desires, then the urge to be free from the undying desires, then questions, then answers, then doubts, then knowledge and finally the Enlightenment.
Unknown to him, this cycle was going on, the seeds in his mind were sprouting, the light was growing. What he knew was that he was Happy.
After all, he knew that hunger was like a fire which expands with more wood and decreases with less.
He knew how to defeat the hunger and be happy.

He knew that hunger could die too!

Quotes of Shankaracharya-

What is inquiry into the Truth? It is the firm conviction that the Self is real, and all, other than That, is unreal.”

Thus one should know oneself to be of the nature of Existence-Consciousness-Bliss[Sat-Chit-Ananda].”

The witness of the three states of consciousness [waking, dream and deep sleep] and of the nature of Existence-Consciousness-Bliss is the Self.”

Knowing that I am different from the body, I need not neglect the body. It is a vehicle that I use to transact with the world. It is the temple which houses the Pure Self within.”
But the jiva [living being] is endowed with ego and his knowledge is limited, whereas Ishwar[God] is without ego and is omniscient.

There is sorrow in finitude. The Self is beyond time, space and objects. It is infinite and hence of the nature of absolute happiness.”

Quotes of Guru Nanak Dev:

“Of all religions, the most exalted is to worship the lord and do good deeds.”

“The enlightened God-conscious person takes delight in doing good deeds for others.”

“Do not say that the Vedas, the Bible and the Quran are false. Those who do not contemplate their scriptures are the ones who are false.”

“I see no stranger, I see no enemy- I get along with everyone.”

“Whoever God has created, I accept as good.”

“This is the sublime I have obtained from the Holy and the Wise. The Divine Light of God is pervading in all. Beholding him Nanak blossoms forth in Joy.”

“Answer Evil with goodness, do not fill your mind with anger.Your body shall not suffer from any disease and you shall obtain everything.”

“The God-conscious being delights in doing good deeds for others. The God-conscious being acts in the common good.”

“Recognize the Lord's light within all, and do not consider social class or status, there are no classes or castes in the world thereafter.”

“In the beginning, Allah created the Light, from that light, He has created all mortal beings.
From the One Light, the entire Universe came. So who is good, and who is bad?”

“The clay is the same, but the cosmic potter has created vessels of many kind. There is nothing wrong with the pot of clay-there can be no error by the potter. The One true Lord abides in all, by His power, every thing is fashioned.”

“In that place where the lowly are cared for-there the blessings of your Glance of grace rain down”.

Quotes of Jesus Christ!

Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.”
So I say to you, Ask and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you.”
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”
All the commandments: You shall not commit adultery, you shall not kill, you shall not steal, you shall not covet, and so on, are summed up in this single command: You must love your neighbor as yourself.”
If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.”

Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to cast a stone.”

And know that I am with you always; yes, to the end of time.”

Do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day's own trouble be sufficient for the day.”

Little children, you are from God, and have conquered them; for the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in this world.”

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.”

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.”

Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye?”

You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye”

You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”

So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”

Decoding Shiva!

Shiva, Rudra, Pashupati, Mahadev and Mahesh, he is known by all these names. All the religions, sects and races have worshipped him by some of these names or some other name through all the ages. He is the most prominent figure in the Hinduism, which is bsically ollective form of varied beliefs of Indian subcontinent. Even the Scriptures of Upnishads idetify him as 'Brahma' ( The supreme soul and not one of the triad) and the 'Onkar'. Tantra also combine Shiva, Om and Ajna chakra.

Of his many forms and formless presence throghout human history of this subcontinent, the most prominent, well known and universal picture of him is attached below.
However, a closer inspection by an open mind reveals a completely different picture and concept coded inside this picture.

My own observations are added below:

 1. Snake - The snake on the shoulders is nothing but the 'Awakened kundalini'. The kundalini power which rises through the seven chakras elevates the Consciousness through different levels of awareness upto the highest level of Enlightenment. Kundalini has always been depicted as a coiled snake. This depiction shows the path of soul to sepersoul through awakening the Kundalini.

 2. Third Eye-' The Third eye' of Shiva is not the eye of the destruction of the world, but it is the 'Ajna Chakra' itself. The Ajna chakra, which lies in the center of the forehead, is one of the most powerful chakras and when it awakens, the eye of the true knowldge opens. This eye sees through all space and time and this eye when opened destroys the clouds of Ignorance, which make us completely blind to the truth. Third eye is the inner eye and the all seeing eye of the Ajna chakra of liberation.

3. Ashes, matted hair, Tiger Skin- They depict the detachment to the material desires. The annihilation of desire and the triumph of the divine body above the primitive desires of this animal body. The tale of the burning of 'Kamdeva' by the third eye of Shiva is the literal depiction of the death of desires by the opening of the inner all seeing eye of knowledge.

 4. The Lotus posture is the favoured meditative of yogi since forever.

 5. The poison held in the throat- The poison held in the throat of the lord Shiva clearly depicts the liberation of the soul from the birth and death cycles. For the awakened soul of the yogi there is no death.

 6. The ganga originating from the head of lord Shiva is the stream of knowledge.

7.Damaru- Symbol of the supreme sound of 'Om'. besides the above,

the other pictures of Lord shiva also depict thd following:

1. Parvati - The consort of lord Shiva, is the depiction of the secret knowledge of the duality of the unity and the unity of the duality. She is the 'Yin' of the Yang of Shiva. They are also worshipped together as 'Ardhanarishwara' as the Yin-Yang combination. The Ardhanarishwara inside the Shivling is the symbol mediated upon for awakening the Ajna Chakra and the mantra is 'Om'.

Natraja- look again the posture is nothing but the shape of 'Om'!

The above depiction seems to the secret coded knowledge in form of message between yogis. The summarized knowledge seems to be that, " The journey of Enlightment from soul to supersoul is through the true nowledge gained from awakening the inner eye through meditation and detachment."

Shiva & Mahashivratri

Is Mahashivratri the marriage anniversary of Shiva and Parvati? Is it just a festival on a tale? Or is it something else?

Shiv and Shakti are symbols of Consciousness and Energy. It's often said that Shiv is Shav (corpse) without Shakti.

On spiritual plane of human evolution Mahashivratri has a different meaning.

Shiv is the state of self realized soul as indicated by:
Third eye open: Means Ajna Chakra activated(Ajna chkr symbol is like an eye)
Holding poison in the throat : Beyond cycle of Birth-Death by Moksha through self realization.
2.5 coiled Serpent : Kundlaini activated
Closed eyes, dhyan posture, padmasan: Yogi, Shiv is called Adiyogi, as creator of Yoga, too.
Jata joot, Tiger skin, Bhasm : Detachment
Natraj : Shiv in Om posture, om being the mantra for activation of the Ajna Chakra.

Mahashivratri :
Its a night of annual planetary position which assists in upward movement of Kundalini to activate chakras, taking shakti to consciousness centers ie chakras, thereby union of Shiv and shakti. So the sadhaks meditate all night.

The common masses use that night in devotion to Shiva, devotion being the other path to same end for the common and un-initiated.

The planetary positions on this night, which is also the darkest night of the year, are such that there is a natural upsurge of energy in the human system. It is enormously beneficial for one’s physical and spiritual wellbeing to stay awake and aware in a vertical posture throughout the night.

Moon has been associated with mental functions since long. The highetened mental activity on full moon nights, especially of those suffering from insanity, was observed long time ago and hence the term 'Lunatics', (Luna being Moon) was coined.

In Indian astrology also Moon has been considered as having major influence on Mental faculties.

While shivratri is observed on the 14th night of waning moon of every lunar month of Indian solar-lunar calendar, Mahashivratri is observed in the 14th night of Krishna Paksha of Waning moon of Month Magh of Indian almanac.

Phases of moon also correlates with phases of mental faculties as seen above and moon being at its weakest, the mind (ie Ego) presents least resistance to the vertically rising Shakti.

The planetary configuration in the particular night of Mahashivratri is unique.

The planetary position shows that Moon is in 3rd Bhav, in capricorn sign with sun in Aquarius in 4 the Bhav.

the Moon is sharing house in between two malefic planets. Hence at its weakest state of the year,
With astrological calculation strength Of Moon at "0".
Jupiter (spiritual guru, grounded in Virgo) aspects the moon by 5th dristhi, sight, and lends energy for spiritual effort at this time. Jupiter is in the 12th house, auspicing detachment from material matters and reflection, awareness of the journey through life, toward the goal of life ie release from the cycle of birth-death-birth again.

On the other hand mediation in full moon nights has a different effect, when energy moves subdued and with greater control, unlike no moon nights when it leaps and jumps in force.

This esoteric knowledge of secrets of spiritual evolution have been known to mystic schools within most religions. Jewish Kabalah & Islamic Sufis both know the secret of Meditations per the phase of moon, as well as the Taoists and maybe the Alchemists too. Buddhist, jains, Sikhs of being from the same Dharmic roots already follow these aspects.

As seen above, the tale of Mahashivratri is an allegorical tale covering the esoteric knowledge of occult and useful in both forms to different sets of peoples, the beauty of the complex construct of Hinduism, which, while in pieces presents confusing perspectives making little sense and then making all sense from a different perspective, a few decades later (as in the case of the writer).

In fact, the moon on the head of Shiva (near his mind) is also shown at it's minimum shape during waning which can be represented In a painting, which may indicate both : wekaest moon, weakest mind (ego) or both.

Further using Newton's law of gravitation, one deduces that Moon's pull is weaker, on moonless nights, by 22% at top of Mt Kailash and by 13% in Kedarnath. On the other hand it shall be 19% & 32% more on full moons.

May your meditation during next Shivaratris, Mahashivratri and otherwise also be most fruitful. 🙏.

Why The world is without Peace!

The world is full of wars, battles and skirmishes going on. Wars have been going on since yime immemorial with hardly any respite ever. Our ancient forefathers also learned to make weapons and hurt others before they even learned to even write. Even today, battles are raging in the name of nations, religions, sects of same religions,  beliefs, property, language, caste, racism, capitalism, socialism etc. In fact such low scale warfare has costed more casualities than the larger theater warfare.
The smallest scale warfare is going in our own city, colony or the workplace too in form of conflicts and standoffs.
Well, it was bound to occur. How can the world be at peace, when the individual is not at peace. Two disturbed persons cant be at peace with each other.
After all, peace can not be purchased or received. It comes from the same place the disturbances come from, the mind itself!
The attempt for world peace begins actually only when I find the way to my own peace. The route is always the same- Tolerance, no judgement, forgiving and forgetting.
I first learn to be happy and peaceful with my own self and that is the hardest part. I have to accept myself as I actually am. the first person who needs forgiveness, love and compassion from me is nobody else myself.
The first mistakes to be forgotten should be my own. Then the same process with friends and family, than the neighbors and colleagues, than the colony and so on.
Peace is also contagious. If you dont believe try smiling at others. Most of your smilea will bw reciprocated immediately and do not worry, the other smiles have also done thier job as light of  glowworms in the night of misery of life of yourself as well as others and So will begin the journey of peace. Only a mind truly at peace with itself will initiate the transformation.

World peace will begin only when I, you and others, we all will learn to be at peace.

Eliminating my enemies!

I had made many enemies. Well everyone does, especially those who are doing good. Some were at my workplace, some in my colony and Some in the relations as well. All of them wanted to see my downfall. Some of them, my greatest enemies, wanted to see my and my name completely destroyed. I had to be on my own guard to protect myself from their machinaction and evil designs. It was becoming more and more difficult to survive and be at peace. Thoughts of them used to rule in my mind before I slept and after I awoke. Sometimes thier evil presence ruined my dreams too.
Then i met somebody, somebody who taught me how to finish my enemies instead. I learnt an easy and successful way to eliminate my enemies.
The way was very simple.
I developed friendship with them. It is better to win a friend than to destroy an enemy and the best way to be peace.
I was eliminating enmity instead of enemies and to have your enemy shed his enmity, it was me who had to do it first.
First of all I accepted them as other humans who had the common human failures. They were as prone to ego, self righteous approach, the folley of judging others as was I. They also misinterpreted words and attached motived to words or actions. You know, words are the worst form of communication possible. Every word, every phrase, every reference and example, every rise and fall in tones has separate intonations for separate persons.
In fact, what we hear in a sentence is what we actually think , the speaker likely to say. Shockingly, as soon as the speaker opens his mouth, we start forming our own version of what he is going to say, what he is saying and what he has said. Also, the same sentence has separate meaning and motive for us for separate speakers. Our own words are always wise and words of those we have faith in, such as our Guru, are gospel truths. However same sentences if spoken our enemies or considered lesser to us, we find them bookish, stupid or sometimes superficial or show off. This means than words have no fixed meaning for us and hence there is a hell lot of possibility of misunderstandings and confusions. Look around, such incidences happen on dozens a day basis, because we do't understand each other or keep judging others continuously with every word or action and the motives we attach to both of them. Even great wars like Mahabharat started with some thoughtless statements that were taken too seriously. Even the biggest conflicts in our family start with some misunderstood words.
Main reason we make enemies is because of the miscommunication and or the lack of communication.
Lack of communication can create fences between not only neighbors, colleagues or friends but also destroy completely the love between relatives and worst between a couple. The marriage counsellors, what do they do if not to emcourage the couple to have a conversation. Falling in Love was easiest, but loving each other enough to forgive them is the hardest part. This Great wall of silence can be so intimidating that nobody even dares to try to speak the first word.
We think that "Why should I say sorry or start the talk. It was I who was right. It was I who was hurt.". Funny! Everybody thinks himself right and considers himself the victim. It is absurd. In arguments humans are not right or wrong, it is the intolerance, the misunderstanding and most imprortant double standards what is wrong.
A land lord wants his tenant to behave differently than he used to do as  a tenant. A subordinates wants his boss to be less bossy than he he himself actually is. A mother in law finds the same behavior and action of the daughter in law objectionable ,which were correct when shes was the daughter in law. A father considers his fashionable son as misguided while the father himself followed the dressing of the movie stars of his own times. This is what we humans are prone to and therefore forgive other for being so.
This intolerance, self righteousness, the miscommunication and the lack of communication are the reason of maximum conflicts. We think the other is after us so we also should be after him.

Surprisingly, the older a conflict is , the bigger the problem is, the easier it is to be resolved also. All that is needed is the courage to take the first step to walk the distance, extend the first hand or speak the first word. Sometimes a "Hi!" will demolish the wall of silence and enmity faster than the Joshuah's trumpet and the walls of Jericho in the biblicale tale. Sitting down and talking it over can resolve most of the issues of the world. The problem is the lack of courage to initiate dialogue. I have seen years of conflict of groups of people resolving after a 30 minute chat. What is funny that sometimes the actual root of conflict was so miniscule and sometimes out of the memory to.
Another advice, " A good memory is a curse. Forgetfullnes is divine."
Why cherish the trash of the worst experience of our life in the mind! Do we keep broke glassware or torn shoes in the cupboard? Keep the mind also adorned with the brightest flowers of great memories and optimism just like your drawing room.
Also, never never ever be afraid to initiate the resoultion. Making the first call is not insulting but earns honour. It does not show weakness, it displays strength. It is not in any way inferior. Also you are doing it more for your own happiness and peace than for others.

So, when I developed the courage to walk the first step and shake hands, sit down to talk and extend arms to embrace my enemy, to forgive them for being what I also am like sometimes, that was the day I started eliminating my enemies.

Now I can't think of any existing enemies. I have eliminated all of them, by making them Friends.

Quotes of Dalai Lama-3

A good friend who points out mistakes and imperfections and rebukes evil is to be respected as if he reveals the secret of some hidden treasure.”
The way to change others’ minds is with affection, and not anger.”
If you have fear of some pain or suffering, you should examine whether there is anything you can do about it. If you can, there is no need to worry about it; if you cannot do anything, then there is also no need to worry.”
Love and Compassion are the true religions to me. But to develop this, we do not need to believe in any religion.”
In the practice of tolerance, one’s enemy is the best teacher.”
Inner peace is the key: if you have inner peace, the external problems do not affect your deep sense of peace and tranquility…without this inner peace, no matter how comfortable your life is materially, you may still be worried, disturbed, or unhappy because of circumstances.”
The purpose of all the major religious traditions is not to construct big temples on the outside, but to create temples of goodness and compassion inside, in our hearts.”

Because we all share this planet earth, we have to learn to live in harmony and peace with each other and with nature. This is not just a dream, but a necessity.”
When we are motivated by compassion and wisdom, the results of our actions benefit everyone, not just our individual selves or some immediate convenience. When we are able to recognize and forgive ignorant actions of the past, we gain strength to constructively solve the problems of the present.”
It is under the greatest adversity that there exists the greatest potential for doing good, both for oneself and others.”
Irrespective of whether we are believers or agnostics, whether we believe in God or karma, moral ethics is a code which everyone is able to pursue.”
If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun.”
Peace does not mean an absence of conflicts; differences will always be there. Peace means solving these differences through peaceful means; through dialogue, education, knowledge; and through humane ways.”
