On Normalcy, Normal , Norms and, Normalizing

From childhood we have been taught to be normal, act normal, not be abnormal ie comply to the norms.

Whats is the definition of Normal?
From Webster :
#conforming to a type, standard, or regular pattern : characterized by that which is considered usual, typical, or routine

#according with, constituting, or not deviating from a norm, rule, procedure, or principle.

#approximating the statistical average or norm.

So basically Norm means average.
But is it essential to be average?
Then why are we told to be normal?
Even the definition of excellence means best  between normals ie averages.
Were Einstein, Da Vinci, Shakespeare, Gandhi, Bill Gates, average? Would they have become what they did if they were forced to become normal ie average.

The statistical part bring us to another aspect of the word "Normal".  In statistics there is a Normal Curve or Bell Curve or Gaussian curve, which has been found to fit to so many things in nature that it came to be known as the Normal Curve. Whether it be height of a group of children, weight of mangoes, height of trees, width of bolts   produced, everything has been found to fit to the normal curve, at sufficient sample size.

However, the normal curve itself, as the name suggest has a peak in middle and thins towards both ends equally, just like a bell. Now this represents that whatever parameter or aspect we consider, whether height, weight or creativity, athletics, artistic, philosophic, in all sample most that's it 95% people shall be average in that aspect, another 2% better or worse and 0.5% extremely Good and 0.5% extremely bad in that aspect.

This also means that if we take 50 aspects or as many we can can plot, the distribution of them for a person, we would find the person being average in 95% of them, bad in 2.5% of them, better in 2% and excel above all others in 0.5 % aspects of them.

This also means some degree of 'abnormality' ie being far beyond normalcy or averse is not at all abnormal but normal in design of things, by nature!

So don't we need to find out those 2%+0.5% for own self? And for our children and student? Doesn't we need to accept our own 'abnormalities', we have been told off by others as normal and work on developing then to our advantage?
Could Rajpal Yadav, Tuntun, Amrish Puri etc been what they become had they been of average features?
Shouldn't we help them in growing like the unique flowers that all of them are? Isn't the world more beautiful with all types of flowers rather than with just one type, even if it's the Rose?
How many Einsteins, Da Vincis.. world has lost by forced normalcy?

So let's not 'normalize' , belive in own uniqueness, our own USP and explore  and develop them to be all that we can be in our own way and not just the normal guy.
